Joan Needham Painting on Handmade Paper

Product Description

A distinctive and mysterious painting on handmade paper by renowned New Jersey artist Joan Needham from 1997. Signed and dated, this unique piece was masterfully crafted utilizing handmade paper and paint, evoking a foreboding and curious mood with the use of neutral space, curious blending of red and black paint, and an abstract perspective. Needham’s work has been exhibited locally and internationally throughout the United States, Japan, China, Spain, England and France. She is the recipient of a New Jersey State Council on the Arts fellowship, and she is part of the New Jersey Public Arts program. In 1981, she introduced papermaking to the central New Jersey region after studying under Laurence Barker, a master papermaker located in Barcelona, Spain. Most recently, Needham was a volunteer teacher in Khayalitsha, South Africa, where she taught the fundamentals of linoleum block printing to a group of women. After developing their skills, the women in the program were given the opportunity to sell their prints and provide an income for their families.
